Over £400 Raised at Annual Quiz

Quiz enthusiasts in Sutton Coldfield helped raise more than £400 to combat human rights abuses around the globe.

Organised by the Sutton Coldfield branch of Amnesty International, the event on 28 April at Sutton Town Football Club attracted more than 60 people to pit their wits in the annual quiz.

The evening also included a raffle and people were invited to add their voices to campaigns to free human rights defenders. Competitors signed a letter in support of the group’s prisoner of conscience Leila de Lima, a senator and human rights campaigner in the Philippines who was arrested in 2017. And people also signed a second letter in support of Hong Kong human rights lawyer Chow Hang-tung who is facing 10 years in prison for being in breach of Hong Kong’s National Security law.

Sutton Coldfield Amnesty International chair Andrew Hindle said: “Our annual quiz is always a great event which is lots of fun but also raises money for Amnesty International and supports people unjustly imprisoned around the world. This year our quiz raised £427 and we are grateful to everyone who came along and supported us. We’ll be back next year so keep an eye on our website and Twitter feed for more information.”
