mena uprisings: ONLY
HALF A RE VOLUTION?
Tuesday 20 March, 7pm for 7.30pm start
Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard,
London EC2A 3EA
To discuss the future of women’s rights and feminist activism
across the region, Amnesty International UK is hosting an
event with activists from Egypt, Libya and Iran.
Women played a vital role in last year’s uprisings across the
Middle East and North Africa, leading protests and strikes,
writing and blogging about human rights violations and
delivering humanitarian aid. In elections in Tunisia and Egypt
they were candidates, campaigners and voters.
But little over a year later, women’s activists are increasingly
marginalised and face discrimination, repression and attacks.
Yara Sallam, Nazra for Feminist Studies (Egypt)
Dalia Abdelhammed Ali Ibraheem, Egyptian Initiative for
Personal Rights (Egypt)
Layla El Wafa, Women for Libya
Sussan Tahmasebi, Campaign for Equality (Iran)
